City Trekker Summer Camp 2018 offers 10 weeks of fun, educational activities for children ages 5-12, from June 11th through August 17th, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. City Trekker Summer Camp explores the City of Coral Gables through a variety of disciplines and takes advantage of the many cultural destinations and activities that The City Beautiful and the Museum have to offer. Through exhibits, special presentations, art activities and field trips campers will learn about art, nature, design, history and more!

Campers will also enjoy some splashin’ fun with a trip to Venetian Pool every session!

The Coral Gables Museum provides a safe place to create, play and learn. Campers will be grouped according to age. Shirts, field trip fees, and Friday pizza lunch are included in the registration fee. Family and friends are invited to join the campers every Friday at 4pm for Friday Finales, special presentations featuring creative projects and accomplishments from the campers’ week-long adventures.

Session 1 –  Food Scientists : June 11 – 22, 2018

Explore the science of food! Join us for a farm-to-table experience where campers participate in hands-on learning activities and field trips related to agriculture, food, nutrition, and healthy eating habits. City Trekkers will learn about molecular gastronomy, discover the science behind the sense of smell, and investigate how their bodies process the food they eat.  Campers create works of art inspired by their favorite meals!

Session 2 – Junior Art Detectives : June 25 – July 6, 2018 (closed July 4)

Investigate the mysteries behind famous works of art! Campers identify different artistic disciplines through research, investigation and guided discovery. They learn about artists’ lives and their creative process through storytelling and experimenting. City Trekkers will participate in field trips, scavenger hunts, and gallery inspired activities while developing their observation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Session 3 – Design Squad : July 9 – 20, 2018

Creativity unleashed! Campers brainstorm design projects, explore building techniques, and learn about the collaborative design process. City Trekkers will engage in engineering and construction challenges while building their creative confidence. STEAM hands-on activities, presentations, and field trips encourage campers to think outside the box, hone their sketching skills and foster an inventive approach to problem-solving.

Session 4 – Trick the Eye! : July 23 – August 3, 2018

Do you see what I see? City Trekkers explore the world of optical illusions! Campers learn basic principles of visual processing and explore the relationship between the brain and sense of sight. They develop analytic and creative skills while participating in fun field experiences, arts & crafts activities, and science experiments.

Session 5 – The Power Within Me : August 6 – 17, 2018

Be in the moment! City Trekkers work together to form positive connections with themselves and their friends.  Campers learn all about mindfulness awareness through fun activities, games, yoga, guided meditation, and mindful breathing techniques.
