Caribbee Club Artist: Abdiel Acosta

August 2, 2018 - August 3, 2018

August 3rd – October 2nd

“I’ve always had a deep affinity to the ocean and its timeless connection to men. I am drawn to the historical and mythological creatures inhabiting its depths which, in my work, appear combined with my own fantasy. My constructions and recreations of the natural world lead me to reflect on the human existence, its identity and nature. Results are often as hybrid as the concepts I am working with and go from drawing, to painting, to printmaking.”

Raised in Miami, Florida, Abdiel Acosta received a B.F.A. in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a M.S. in Art Education from Florida International University along with numerous academic scholarships and awards. His work has been widely exhibited nationally in venues such as the University of Connecticut; Art Center of South Florida; Miami International University of Art and Design; San Carlos Museum, California; and Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. It has been featured in publications such as the Mystic River Press, the Latin Network for the Visual Arts Biannual Catalogue 2006-2014, and Caliban Online, among others.
Acosta is a full-time teacher with Miami Dade County Public Schools since 2005 and has been a core faculty teacher for Arts for Learning since 2011.
