The Coral Gables Museum is pleased to announce the launch of the retrospective book “Imaginando un habitar” (Imagining a Habitat) (2022) on the work of Cuban-American Master painter, Humberto Calzada (Havana, 1944), one of the most distinctive and influential voices of the new Latin American figuration, on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
El Museo de Coral Gables se complace en anunciar el lanzamiento del libro retrospectivo “Imaginando un habitar” (2022) sobre la obra del pintor cubanoamericano Humberto Calzada (La Habana, 1944), una de las voces más distintivas e influyentes de la nueva figuración latinoamericana, el jueves 10 de marzo de 2022, de 7:00 a 9:00 pm.
Accompanying the book, a panel discussion integrated by the artist, along with art critic and curator Dennys Matos; professor and essayist, Dr. Jorge Brioso; and Manny Fernández, manager of Bellak Color, Print will be presented. Edited by the DmArtPro label, Miami, “Imaginando un habitar” is a hard-cover, bilingual (English/Spanish) publication comprised of 176 pages and divided into four chapters. It includes two essays and more than 130 full-color images which illustrate the different stages in the work of Calzada, from his beginnings in the early 1970s, to the large-format pieces realized during the pandemic lockdown.
Acompañando al libro, se presentará un panel integrado por el artista, junto al crítico de arte y curador Dennys Matos, el profesor y ensayista Dr. Jorge Brioso y Manny Fernández, gerente de Bellak Color, Print. Editada por el sello DmArtPro, Miami, “Imaginando un habitar” es una publicación bilingüe (inglés/español) de tapa dura que consta de 176 páginas y se divide en cuatro capítulos. Incluye dos ensayos y más de 130 imágenes a todo color que ilustran las distintas etapas de la obra de Calzada, desde sus inicios a principios de la década de 1970, hasta las piezas de gran formato realizadas durante el confinamiento por la pandemia.
