7:30 – Yucef Merhi: Art after Data
Join us for this physical and online presentation by visual artist Yucef Merhi (Caracas, Venezuela, 1977). Merhi will be sharing some insights on the motivations that gave birth to some of his data-oriented works, including “The Artbox” (2000), currently on view in our exhibition “A Matter of Time; Examining Forty Years of AIDS While Living through a Pandemic”.
Yucef Merhi is an artist, coder, curator, and academic researcher, based in Miami. He is a pioneer of Digital Art and is known for exhibiting the first work of art that included a video game console. Merhi has exhibited at The New Museum (NY), LACMA (LA), De Appel (Amsterdam), and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), among others. His work is represented in the collections of the Orange County Museum of Art; Library of Congress; Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation; Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo; and Mednarodni Grafični Likovni Center.
