Coral Gables Museum presents it’s newest program Town Squared, a bimonthly series which invites Miami artists to reimagine the role art places in public spaces. This will manifest itself as a series of pop-up exhibitions and performances every other Gallery Night on the museum’s 2000 sqft plaza with an emphasis on performance art and experimental approaches to installation.
CGM’s first Town Squared artist is Kunst, a performance artist who’s work often finds itself being a disjointed coalescing of the phantasmic, the ecstatic, the melancholic, and the abject.
Kunst, performing as their character Town Crier, presents Oration No.2 : On Historicity and Power.
In Oration No.2 the structuring reference is that of a triptych vignette. Performed in three acts, the oration cartographs boom time coral gables history along the veins of property, architecture, regulation, and power. In doing so within the performative field town crier seeks to rupture through varying exercises the high cultural knowing of coral gables history and introduce a new vernacular approach.
Town Squared also presents a pop-up subtropic garden by the Center for Subtropic Affairs, an installation and psychic readings by Eleventh House MIA, and a zine workshop by Exile Books.
