Artistic License: An MDCPS Art Teacher Exhibit

September 6-30, 2013

The Coral Gables Museum will soon be hosting a unique exhibition presented by Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Visual Art Department, “Artistic License,” showcasing master artists from Miami and abroad, along with visual art instructors that studied under them. This juried exhibition will provide a rare glimpse into not only the artists’ works in a variety of media, but how they inspire art educators to reconnect with their inner artist after serving as educators in the arts for many years.

Since 2010, the Visual and Performing Arts Department of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Division of Academic Support has been conducting summer mini-workshops with concentrated studio studies funded by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Arts Council, the Miami-Dade County mayor and Board of Commissioners.

The result of this particular collaborative studio environment is a distinct array of works in a variety of media in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional form. The show will include works by master artists Ray Azcuy, Pablo Cano, Alejandro Mendoza, Lucinda Linderman , as well as the art educators under their tutelage for the summer.
