PUBLIC ART IN CGM
Public art has the power to shape a city’s identity, and at the CGM, it has become a defining pillar of our Mission. Through Art on the Plaza, the Museum has transformed one of our city’s most visible public spaces into an outdoor gallery—an open invitation for residents and visitors to encounter creativity in their everyday lives.
From the monumental watermelon of Julio Larraz to the vibrant dimensionality of Rafael Barrios, and the cutting edge designs of Zammy Migdal, these installations have sparked conversation, reflection, and pride in our shared cultural landscape. Now, Jaume Plensa’s Minna adds gravitas to the austere forms of our traditional architecture.
By its side, Art in the Loggia continues this vision, activating the historic architecture of our building with contemporary voices. The evocative chandeliers of Edouard Duval-Carrie, which bridge history, spirituality, and Caribbean identity, have expanded our visual dialogue while honoring the diverse stories that define our region. These projects affirm our commitment to presenting art that resonates beyond the walls of the Museum and enriches the cultural life of Coral Gables.
Our Public Art Exhibitions build on this legacy by bringing world masters to the city—artists who have shaped the global history of modern and contemporary art and, in doing so, transformed Coral Gables. Landmark exhibition Masters Who Changed the City: Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto have elevated the Museum’s role as a cultural leader and an ambassador for artistic excellence.
Coming up in 2026, Alejandro Otero: Monumental will reintroduce a giant of art in public places. With your support, we can continue to bring inspiring art into the public realm, ensuring that Coral Gables remains a city where creativity thrives in every plaza, passageway, and public space.
