This exhibition examines the artistic legacy of Albert Ernest “Beanie” Backus (1906–1990), recognized for his luminous Florida landscapes portraying swamps, marshes, coastal inlets, and expansive skies. A largely self-taught artist and a significant presence in Florida’s mid-20th-century art scene, Backus played an influential role as a mentor to several artists later associated with the Highwaymen.

As part of the Link and Learn program, the ICAA at Coral Gables Museum presents the inaugural Teofilo Victoria Lecture Series featuring Douglas Duany, a pioneer in sustainable landscape and urban design whose global work spans academia, New Urbanism, and community-centered development.
