Intellectual study with the freedom to get dirty is the beauty of the practice of art-making. Painting is a vehicle for self-discovery. It is also an affirmation of my deepest beliefs when doubt creeps in. The beliefs sound lame if I make the effort to explain but are strong and certain when my picture feels complete; the truth of some kind stares back at me. – Nicole Maynard-Sahar
